Bones will be adding another intern when the show returns with the second half of season 9 in 2014.

Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan spoke with TVLine recently about the new "squintern" that would be joining the Jeffersonian team.

"He's someone who came to the country seeking asylum," Nathan teased. "He was a very, very prominent forensic anthropologist in his own country, but [in the U.S.] he's a student because he has to get his degree again. He has to work his way up to a position that he already occupied for many years. He feels that he's Brennan's equal, but Brennan really doesn't feel the same."

As for which country the new intern hails from, Nathan explained, "He's not from the Middle East. He defected from this hemisphere. So that's something that everyone should be able to narrow down."

In other Bones spoiler news, guest star Freddie Prinze Jr. is returning to his role as covert CIA agent Danny Beck. Prinze will be returning for the show's 14th episode of season 9, enlisting Booth's (David Boreanaz) help in solving an old case. Prinze first appeared in the season 9 premiere as the Army veteran-turned-CIA agent who met Booth back in the day.

Bones has had an eventful ninth season with Booth finally marrying Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and the killing of Pelant (Andrew Leeds). The next few episodes will introduce a new serial killer who will become the new villain of the season.

Bones season 9 returns on Friday, Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
