Ziva David's departure from the NCIS team left many fans wondering whether or not she will return for her love Tony DiNozzo.

Turns out, the show's executive producer Gary Glasberg isn't against the idea, but it will probably play out a little differently than some fans would hope.

"A lot of people have approached me about the idea of not shutting the door entirely on [their staying in touch], and I'm not opposed to it," he recently told TVLine. "But it has to be done in a way where it feels organic to the storytelling and we're not just throwing in lines about Ziva here and there."

Glasberg explained that "If Tony's in a personal relationship or there's something significant happening for him and he wondered how she would respond, then maybe we can figure out a way to do it. It's a valid issue to bring up."

The idea of Ziva returning in the future was previously teased by the actress who plays her - Cote de Pablo.

"The greatest thing about this last episode is that Ziva doesn't die," she told TV Guide last September. "As long as a character doesn't die, the character can always come back. Not that it would actually matter, because we bring back characters from the dead all the time on NCIS."

Ziva emotionally left the show back in October and before she parted ways with Tony, he attempted to get her to stay.

"Listen, you can bag groceries for all I care, just come home. I just want you to come home with me," a teary-eyed Tony told her. "I know it's hard and I know you want to change. I can change with you. I'm fighting for you Ziva."
