'American Horror Story' Season 5 News: Will Angela Bassett 'Step Up To The Plate' After Jessica Lange Exit? [VIDEO]
Angela Bassett is ready to step up in a new role in FX's American Horror Story: Hotel, no matter how challenging the role.
Bassett is set to star in her third straight season of American Horror Story with Hotel, the horror anthology series' fifth season. As AHS boss Ryan Murphy tweeted earlier this year, Bassett's character will have something to do with "the ballroom" with Lady Gaga, who is set to star in the new season as well.
While Bassett hasn't read any scripts for Hotel yet, she did preview a few things that are in store in a new interview with IGN (featured below). One thing she touched on was if she was going to sing at all, considering she's acting with Gaga.
Is Caitlyn Jenner Headed To 'American Horror Story'?
"I don't consider myself a singer but if that's what the character calls for then you just have to let that go and dive in," Bassett said. "I cannot be singing a song with Lady Gaga around, can I?!"
Bassett did note, "I sung a duet with Jennifer Hudson so maybe Ryan Murphy is gonna do that to me!"
Bassett also spoke about Jessica Lange leaving American Horror Story after four seasons. When IGN asked if Bassett would step up and lead in Lange's place, she was open to it.
"As an actor you love to throw down the gauntlet take the challenge - step up to the plate - so I would welcome it," she said. "But we still have Kathy Bates around and she's a pretty bad sister. So between she and I - it's an amazing cast. I think we'll be able to fill that space but Jessica - we're definitely gonna miss her."
Other actors set to star in the new season include Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Denis O'Hare, Finn Wittrock, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson, Chloë Sevigny and Max Greenfield.
American Horror Story: Hotel begins this October on FX.
