Survivor host Jeff Probst was a nervous wreck through much of production on the show's current season.

Survivor: Kaoh Rong was no walk in the park for the castaways, but even the show's crew members suffered. Probst recently opened up about the perils of this season, filmed in Cambodia, and how it may have been the scariest season they've ever experienced.

"We lost a lot of crew members," Probst told People, of the many infections incurred. "People had to be sent back to the States because of infections. And not just any infection, but limb-threatening infections. It was one of the scariest seasons if not the scariest season we have had from a production standpoint. "

Two castaways have already been evacuated from the season. Caleb Reynolds was evacuated on Day 9 from heat exhaustion while Neal Gottlieb was taken away on Day 19 due to an infection on his knee.

"I lost a lot of sleep," Probst admitted. "I'd just be monitoring the radio, to make sure that we weren't going to lose any more contestants. We want to put them through hell, because that's Survivor. But we want them to be safe; we don't want anyone to get hurt. It's fun to watch them struggle with hardships, but it's no fun to watch them truly suffer. So I was really worried."

Two castaways who were voted out had to be treated for their own infections. Liz Markham had a staph infection on her shoulder which needed treatment while Peter Baggenstos was flown back to the United States to get surgery on his back and one of his hands.

Many seasons of Survivor have had medical evacuations, but there has seemed to be an inordinate amount of injuries and infections in Kaoh Rong. Much of the season's marketing has been centered around the brutality of the season and while it may have turned off viewers in theory, the ratings for Kaoh Rong have been consistent with past seasons.

Survivor: Kaoh Rong airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
