Kate Mulgrew is warning fans of Orange Is the New Black that they need to prepare themselves for the upcoming fourth season.

Mulgrew, who plays fan favorite Red on Orange Is the New Black, spoke recently about where series creator Jenji Kohan is taking the series in season 4.

"There's a lot of laughs, but you must buckle your seat belts, because she takes some very interesting turns," Mulgrew said while speaking at a Netflix event in France. The show will be "examining the prison system as it has never been examined before" in season 4.

While Mulgrew did promise laughs, she also noted that darkness lies ahead for many characters.

"It gets darker. It's get very dark. I think you will be very surprised, I think you will be wholeheartedly engaged, you will be riveted," she said.

Speaking about Netflix renewing the prison dramedy through season 7, Mulgrew couldn't be more thrilled to be continuing as Red.

"It's a great pleasure, because I love this part, I love this process and I love Jenji Kohan," Mulgrew said. "It's great to look forward to more."

Kohan spoke about the relatively unprecedented renewal back in February.

"Three more years! Not quite a political term, but still plenty of time to do some interesting things. In some cultures, 'May you lead an interesting life,' is a curse, but I don't live in those cultures," Kohan said. "Here's to keeping it interesting. Thanks Netflix! Both thanks and you're welcome Lionsgate! And kudos and gratitude to the stellar cast and crew and writers and producers and editors and musicians and mixers and shleppers... with whom I have the pride and honor of crafting this show. Three more years! Three more years!"

Orange Is the New Black season 4 is slated to drop on Friday, June 17 on Netflix. The first three seasons are available to stream now.
