They've been struggling ever since he was shot and slowly began revealing the truth about his past marriage to the mysterious Claudette, and now, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) will find herself wondering if Nathan (Ryan Paevey) is being genuine as he proposes to her on General Hospital.

Nathan surprised her by showing up at the Metro Court and asking her to marry him completely out of the blue-and now, he will have to assure her that he's honestly asking her because he wants her to be his wife.

"This proposal is real," he says in a preview clip for the Monday, April 18 episode. "Just say yes."

However, Maxie will be unable to blindly say yes to the proposal since she still feels Nathan is hiding something about Claudette, who he claimed to have briefly married because he wanted to help her stay in the United States. Unsatisfied with his explanation of things, she has begun to search for anything she could find on Claudette to see if Nathan is telling her the truth. And after he discovered her search on her tablet, he realized he needed to do whatever it took to secure Maxie's faith in their relationship for good, so she would stop digging-and hopefully, not find out the truth about whatever he is still hiding.

Meanwhile, the proposal was witnessed by someone who may be able to blow the whole Claudette story wide open, or who could expose some other secret concerning Nathan's past. Griffin (Matt Cohen) saw the whole thing and was stunned to see Nathan, who he clearly recognized.

Now, with the fact that Griffin has already told Maxie he is attracted to her, but refuses to learn more about her or get close in anyway because he knows he can't have her since she's taken in mind, he could decide to try and eventually reveal everything he knows about Nathan-and it could be the very thing that does the couple in for good.

General Hospital airs Monday-Friday at 3 p.m. on ABC.
