Z Nation might be in the market for a brand new Murphy.

Humanities great white hope has been many things over the last two seasons--a criminal, a blend, a leader, and a father just to name a few--and Keith Allan played each of these rolls with his own unique flair. Now, it looks as if the zombie smurf could be react.

A contract dispute between Allan and Z Nation production company The Asylum came to the attention of TV Line on Thursday, and, should the two sides fail to reach an agreement, there's a good chance that Murphy will have a different face when filming resumes on May 1.

Let's just hope it doesn't come to that.

Murphy, no matter who he's played by, has big plans for the rest of mankind. While the CDC and the Zonas are hellbent on saving humanity via a vaccine, Murphy has another idea entirely. With the (unwilling) help of Dr. Merch, the king of the blends wants to make a vaccine to alleviate the negative side effects of his condition before spreading it to the other survivors.

"He believes that Dr. Kurian (Donald Corren) was probably right--the blends are who will survive," series creator Karl Schaefer told TV Insider. "The zombies will die out from the lack of humans to eat, the humans will die out because they'll all get infected eventually, and the only one's that'll survive will be the blends."

At the beginning of the season, Murphy's quest will take him away from the rest of Operation Bitemark.

"I know that for part of the next season we will be sort of splitting up and going in different directions," Allan explained at LexCon. "I'm not exactly sure where we're going to go or to what parts of the country because we'll all be doing our different things. Then we come together about midseason for a common cause, a common goal."

We'll find out more when Z Nation returns to Syfy in September.
