They thought for sure that she would return to Salem and them one day, but after news that Abigail appeared to die in a plane crash after she escaped from Shady Hills, both Chad (Billy Flynn) and Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) could be pushed off the deep end on Days of Our Lives.

Since Abigail's disappearance, the two have been battling over custody of Thomas, and the relationship Chad has with his in-laws has been strained because of it. However, now that he believes his beloved wife is dead he doesn't feel he can bear to have any reminders of her around him, which unfortunately includes their son. Now, as he grieves he may make a shocking decision that he will give up the fight and give his son over to his grandmother, because he doesn't feel he can provide a stable or happy home for him without his mother.

However, the decision could be coming too hastily, as Jennifer is also grieving for her daughter. The concerns Chad and Belle (Martha Madison) were going to bring up in court against Jennifer were the ones stemming from her recent bout with drug addiction, after she couldn't stop taking her pain pills following the car accident she was in on New Year's Eve. And though Jennifer has been clean recently, there were still concerns.

Sure enough, now that she is possibly facing life without ever seeing her daughter again, or giving her a proper burial since there were no bodies recovered from the plane wreck, Jennifer is once again facing her addiction troubles and is at risk of falling off the wagon again as a means of coping with her grief. If Chad is willing to give up his son and give him to her, it could prove to be a dangerous and reckless decision if she can't stay sober. And if neither one of them is deemed fit enough to raise Thomas, the baby's fate could be even more perilous than previously believed.

Days of Our Lives airs Monday-Friday at 1 p.m. on NBC.
