They were ready to go and spend the rest of their lives together again, albeit on the run, but things will take a turn no one could have foreseen for Adam (Justin Hartley) and Chelsea (Melissa Clare Egan) on The Young and the Restless.

The two and their son, Connor, were set to take a flight arranged by Victor (Eric Braden) from their safe house cabin they were holed up in following Adam's aided escape from prison and Chelsea's meeting up with him there. However, after they realized Connor had an ear infection and couldn't fly, they decided that the best course of action was to once again separate. Adam stayed behind and would still leave town, and Chelsea would take Connor to the hospital for the medicine he needed, and at a later date, they would disappear again and eventually join Adam once more.

However, the separation could prove to be the worst thing for them, as once Adam is alone in the cabin, an unexpected visitor will arrive, and in a preview clip for the Thursday, September 1 episode, he will be shot in the gut with a dart gun.

His assailant will be none other than Chloe (Elizabewth Hendrickson), who figured out where they were hiding, and decided she couldn't just let him go after all, even though she turned over the diary pages that proved he never killed Constance. She will admit to Adam that she was the one who worked with Victor to frame him, and knowing he would get away and still never face justice she felt she was owed for his taking Delia away from her was something she couldn't handle, and she is there to watch him finally die.

Meanwhile, an alert was put out for Chelsea and Connor, so she needed to alter her plans as well. With Nick's (Joshua Morrow) help, she got a doctor to discreetly meet with her at a hotel to treat Connor, and Nick promised to drive her back to Adam so they could still take off tonight as planned. However, as they approach the cabin again and Chelsea walks over so she can let Adam know they're back, an explosion will occur, and Nick will watch in horror as both Adam and Chelsea potentially suffer from the explosion.

The Young and the Restless airs Monday-Friday at 12:30 p.m. on CBS.
