'The Bachelor' Cast News: ABC Gearing Up To Finally Cast First Black Star For 'Bachelorette' After Nick Viall Season? [VIDEO]
It's the longest-running TV dating series and also one of the most controversial for always failing to have diverse leads and contenders, but it appears ABC's The Bachelor franchise is potentially gearing up for finally having someone diverse in a leading role.
According to Reality Steve, who is known for posting accurate spoilers on the franchise as filming occurs each year, for the first time in the franchise's history, an African-American woman has made it to the final four-possibly the final three-meaning she is a serious contender for Nick Viall's heart, as well as a potential new star for the companion series The Bachelorette.
The woman, identified as Rachel Lindsay, 31, by The Inquisitr, was also the first black woman in the show's history to get the First Impression rose on night one, and if Reality Steve was correct, she has a good chance at becoming Nick's final woman when the show concludes filming soon, though the reveal won't be officially announced by ABC until his season finale next year.
However, if she doesn't wind up being Nick's final woman, making it this far in the competition is actually a good sign that the show, which has long been criticized for not being diverse enough, could be on its way to possibly having a black suitor for the first time ever, with the only other diverse lead of the show being Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis a few years ago.
The next season's lead is usually chosen from the past season's pool of contestants, and is most often someone who was from the final four, with exceptions from The Bachelor including Galavis, Brad Womack's 2nd attempt at finding love on the show, and now Viall. However, The Bachelorette's history has always seen women from the final four being the next star.
The previous Bachelorette stars have included winners Jen Schefft and Emily Maynard, first runners-uo Trista Rehn, Deanna Pappas and JoJo Fletcher, Second runners-up Jillian Harris, Ashley Hebert, Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe and third runners-up, Meredith Phillips, Ali Fedotowsky and Desiree Hartsock.
