‘Zelda: Breath of the Wild’ Nintend Switch VS Wii U: Both Consoles Struggle To Maintain 30 FPS
The much awaited "Zelda: Breath of the Wild" is now available on Nintendo's next-generation console, Switch, and its past-gen gaming unit, Wii U. And since the new franchise installment is a cross-platform title, some fans couldn't help but compare the performance of the game on both gaming units.
Famed video game analyst, Digital Foundry, has published a stress test video for "Zelda: Breath of the Wild" on Nintendo Switch and Wii U. On the side-by-side comparison, it seems like both consoles are having inconsistent results on the test.
Both Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of "Zelda: Breath of the Wild" are struggling to maintain a solid 30 frame rates per second, Techno Buffalo reported. The FPS drop, however, is more noticeable on the past-gen console rather than on the new generation.
The Wii U version's drop in FPS seems much more drastic than the dip in Switch for "Zelda: Breath of the Wild," as can be seen on the video. When tested in the Kakariko Village, fans can see the significant drop of FPS in the Wii U port down to 20 frames. The next-gen console, on the other hand, has successfully maintained a constant 30 FPS despite the heavy demand in the performance.
However, the Switch console seems to have trouble in certain areas of the map in "Zelda: Breath of the Wild." The drop is not exactly that significant, though, when compared to the Wii U. And it shouldn't be that alarming considering that the console recovers quite quickly and the drop is not as frequent.
Despite the struggle of both consoles, the Nintendo Switch still comes out as the superior one when it comes to running "Zelda: Breath of the Wild." Wii U can still run it, though, but the experience may not be as smooth when compared to the new gaming unit. Watch the full stress test clip below.
