Scooby-Doo Crossover Puts The Mystery Gang On The Same Screen With 'Supernatural's Sam, Dean, And Castiel
The meddling kids from Scooby-Doo meet the gun-toting brothers from Supernatural as the two ghoul-hunting groups come together for a special crossover episode.
While Scooby-Doo has already been adapted on the big screen, this new reimagining is quite unique with the Supernatural cast getting an animated treatment to join the quirky characters of the Hanna-Barbera family-favorite.
A Scoobynatural Episode
The Winchester brothers get sucked into a Scooby-Doo cartoon, much to Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) surprise. Their best friend Castiel (Misha Collins) will also be along for the ride, as seen in the exclusive photos shared on Entertainment Weekly.
"Once they get over their amazement at being in the cartoon, two things happen," co-showrunner Robert Singer says, adding that the boys remember that they've been in bizarre situations before. "And then they realize they're in a Scooby-Doo cartoon, which makes Dean incredibly excited because Scooby-Doo was his favorite cartoon growing up."
The Winchesters and Castiel will land in the middle of the Scooby-Doo gang's wacky adventures and meet Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma.
Although the quirky characters of Mystery Inc. are present, the episode is a Supernatural story through and through with a monster that's darker than anything the Scooby gang ever faced. Instead of catching the man behind the mask, the combined groups will be after a proper Supernatural monster.
The episode will also feature a smitten Dean, who is shown in one of the images to be holding the hand of Daphne as the group runs away from something.
"Dean came of age in a time before the internet when Daphne wasn't so bad," co-showrunner Andrew Dabb explains. "Dean has very strong opinions on all the Scooby characters, but especially Daphne and Fred."
Supernatural's "Scoobynatural" episode will air on Thursday, March 29 on The CW.
Scooby Gang Joins Batman
The Mystery Inc. has been getting around, not just joining the crew of Supernatural but also Batman in a new direct-to-video animated film entitled Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
Released earlier this year, the team-up between the Dark Knight and the Scooby gang earned excellent critical reviews. The IGN review praises the cohesion between the two fan-favorite franchises saying that what it "lacks in terms of a compelling plot, it makes up for in sheer entertainment value."
Aside from the Scooby-Doo characters, this The Brave and the Bold movie includes appearances from Aquaman, Black Canary, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Penguin, and more.
