You can hold off on that CSI autopsy; CBS is not quite done with the franchise.

For the first time in 16 years, CBS has released a fall schedule that does not include one of Anthony Zuiker's creations. CSI: Cyber bit the dust after a mere two seasons, and, now that the original Las Vegas drama has come to a close, fans of the procedural are in a lurch.

Never fear. According to CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller, fans should look at the upcoming season as a temporary lull rather than a definitive end.

I'm incredibly proud of all four shows that came out of the CSI franchise. Clearly, it was huge hit for us, and a global hit - all four series," Geller said, according to US Weekly. [CSI] may come back in another incarnation, and that's where it stands today."

In the meantime, forensic aspect of procedurals has become so ubiquitous that

CSI fans can turn to any number of crime dramas to get their pseudo-science fix. Currently, Bones and NCIS are two series that play into the CSI aspect the most, albeit without the blue mood lighting.
