The tale of Shadowhunter's Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane is only just beginning.

Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series moved to television screens over the winter, and the adaptation brought everyone's favorite 'ship with it. Malec came to fruition ahead of the finale, and, as the war against Valentine moves into phase two, Harry Shum, Jr. (Magnus) has high hopes for the couple.

"I would love to see Alec and Magnus fight together," Shum told Out. "That would be so cool to see. Fighting together would be hilarious dialogue, some great effects and action. And of course, magic! You can never have too much magic."

Unfortunately, neither Matthew Daddario (Alec) nor Shum know exactly what the future holds for the bowman and his immortal love. It's never easy adapting a beloved series for the small screen, and the Shadowhunters writers chose to keep viewers on their toes with a few plot twists during season 1, none of which was more shocking than Alec's near marriage to Lydia.

"I wish we knew," Daddario told LGBT Hollywood in regards Malec's season 2 arc. "[The writers are] just getting started on it and they're going to be aggressively working on it for months."

Something tells us it will involve plenty of glitter and gravity-defying hair. Oh, and a few twists. Don't forget those twists.

"You never know where things are going to go, and so we have seasons worth of stories planned for them that will both honor and surprise the fans and the characters," executive producer Michael Reisz told Paste. "Having [Alex] come out at the end of Season 1 gives us an opportunity to launch into the stories we have planned for the future."

Are you ready to see what the future holds for Malec? Shadowhunters will return to Freeform later this year.
