NCIS: Los Angeles Daniela Ruah is ready to become a mom for the second time, but, for now, it looks as if Kensi Blye will avoid the baby bump.

The NCIS agent gave her LAPD partner a mini heart attack when he found her pursuing Mommy & Me mags as season 7 came to a close. A little child terrorist drama, however, served to remind the couple that their current lifestyle is incompatible with onesies and midnight diaper runs, causing Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi (Ruah) to put a pin in the whole parenthood debate.

For a moment, it looked as if Ruah's real life pregnancy would reopen that door sooner rather than later. Alas, NCIS: LA missed their window of opportunity.

Integrating an actresses' pregnancy into a storyline is tricky business, and, unless a time jump is involved, the fictional mother-to-be must reveal the good news within the first few months. The season 7 finale was NCIS: LA's last chance to take the exit for Buy Buy Baby and the writers didn't even tap the breaks. When filming resumes in July, Ruah will be headed into her third trimester.

Don't fret, Densi fans; you still have a proposal to look forward to! Once Deeks slips a ring on Ms. Blye's finger, the intrepid investigators will eventually begin to contemplate growing their family.

"Once they are officially engaged, then I think that conversation will come back again," executive producer Scott Gemmill promised TV Guide

. "And it's tricky, because neither one of them wants to give up their career, and can you have two parents in life-and-death situations on a daily basis? Is that proper parenting, or is that negligence in some way?"

Ahh, questions for another day, perhaps!
